Album: the portable photo frame, soon to play video

Album: the portable photo frame, soon to play video

Album

Albumteam has finally done something that has taken far too long to a company to realize: make a decent digital photo album that can leave the coffee table.' Album accomplishes just that, it’s a 7-inch portable digital photo frame.' It also is fairly simply, possessing only three buttons for the interface.' Sure, it might be even easier to use a touchscreen, but Albumteam decided to not make it touchscreen because that tends to leave smears and sometimes scratches on the screen.' That’s something they wanted to avoid.

The Album as it stands now is a 7-inch digital photo album, though the next version, Album2 will add more functionality.' The Album2 will add video and wi-fi to the device, which would make it much more interesting.' Given that you will be able to load any video you want to the device via an SD card.' The Album2 will support most major file formats, which is great.' However, with an estimated 2 hours of battery life on the Album2 (3 hours on the Album), it might not be as useful or interesting as it sounds for most people.

Sony Dash becomes the ultimate alarm clock

Sony Dash becomes the ultimate alarm clock

Dash

At first looks, the Sony Dash is a fancy picture frame. But when you get down to it, the Dash is what every geek and non-geek will want on their bed-side table.

The 7-inch touch screen will give you access to over 1,000 internet applications thanks to Chubby to provide weather, traffic, sports, social networking, movies, games and other applications. This also includes everyone’s favorite streaming service, Pandora. It will be able to connect via Wifi to provide you with the day’s weather along with a calendar and clock.

The Dash has the ability to wake you up by the music you like to hear, then be taken to the office and placed flat on the desk and provide you with the information you want to see throughout the day.

Currently only at CES, we can expect the Dash to retail for $199.

A special thanks goes out to Energizer for supplying the Gadgetell crew with Energi To Go battery packs, which allowed us to keep our gadgets charged on the run and focus more on finding good stuff at CES and not having to worry about sitting next to a power outlet. Casio Intros Digital Art Frame

Casio Intros Digital Art Frame

casiodigitalart.jpg

That old digital photo frame not doing it for you, anymore? Casio's got a new device that promises to 'turn your pictures into works of art.' The Digital Art Frame is a fairly standard picture frame--with a bit of a twist. The device features built in technology that transforms still images into painting-like pictures that, frankly, look like they've been run through a Photoshop filter.

There are eight different filters, including watercolor, pointalism, pastel, airbrush, and oil painting. The frame also lets users create video, with Casio's high burst image capture. Animation can be overlayed onto the images. There's also Adobe Flash Lite built-in, so users can view Flash animated calendars and clocks.

So, is the device as revolutionary as Casio seems to think? Naw, but it'll likely cost you less than a Rembrandt.

Kodak Pulse Digital Frame

Kodak Pulse Digital Frame

Kodak Pulse Digital Frame

[CES 2010] Kodak, being an old hand when it comes to photography (having moved to the digital format), is now back with their Pulse digital frame. In line with other digital photo frames of the times, the Pulse will feature Wi-Fi connectivity alongside a personal email address that allows you to remotely send a photo over via a cellphone or computer to keep the image library there fresh and up-to-date. A full touchscreen display is also thrown into the mix for easier navigation and browsing, but unfortunately you are limited to just 512MB of internal memory with nary a USB port or memory card slot to augment that figure. On the other hand, the 7' LED backlit display features Kodak Color Science technology for a faithful color reproduction as well as 800 x 600 resolution to keep your memories looking sharp.
